It was agonizingly close. Neeraj Chopra produced his best performance in more than a year at the Lausanne Diamond League, but once again found Sri Lanka's rising star Rumesh Pathirage just a fraction better, missing out on the title by a razor thin margin of just 9 centimetres.

How The Competition Unfolded

Neeraj set the tone early, unleashing a huge 88.05m throw in his second round his best effort since winning the Paris Diamond League back in June 2025, and comfortably his season best. For a moment, it looked like it might be enough to seal the win. But Pathirage, who has been the most dominant javelin thrower on the circuit this season, responded in the third round with an even bigger throw of 88.14m, snatching the lead by the barest of margins.

Grenada's Anderson Peters saved his best for last, throwing 86.69m in his final and sixth attempt to secure third place, while reigning world champion Keshorn Walcott could only manage fourth with a best of 83.71m in a genuinely stacked nine-man field.
